Our Republic Raped and Still No Revolution!

Our Republic Raped and Still No Revolution!

Joel S. Hirschhorn

Are Americans ready for a revolution? What worse than the current meltdown of the financial sector, the unraveling of our economy, and burdening us and future generations with astounding debt is needed to convince Americans that the two-party plutocracy has sold out ordinary Americans? What we are witnessing is far worse than the taxation without representation that spurred the American Revolution. Taxation with MISrepresentation is a greater evil and shameful sellout of democracy that so many Americans have fought and died for.

Yet, despite over 80 percent of Americans saying that the nation is on the wrong track – BEFORE the current financial crisis, Americans sheepishly seem ready and willing this year to keep voting for Democrats and Republicans. If they had one shred of the smartness and courage of our nation’s Founders, they would overwhelmingly vote for third party presidential candidates to send the clearest and most patriotic message possible to the ruling class that has both major parties in their pocket.

Ousting Democrats and Republicans is more justified and needed than removing the tyranny of the King of England. Our elected domestic tyranny operating as a plutocracy masquerading as a democracy has been raping our nation. Yet middle class victims seem more than willing to keep bending over and asking for more pain and insult as they fall hook, line and sinker for the lies of both Barack Obama and John McCain.

It is far too easy, with the financial sector meltdown, for Americans to only blame Republicans. But Bill Clinton started the deregulation of the financial sector and every evil and stupid thing George W. Bush and Republicans have done could not have happened without the cooperation of corrupt and cowardly Democrats in Congress. They too have inflicted economic sodomy on us and contributed to disgracing our Constitution.

What incredible absurdity that the government seems ready to spend $700 billion to bail out countless crooked, mismanaged and greedy companies (and similar money on the Iraq war) and not ever seriously propose to spend that kind of money on rebuilding the nation’s crumbling physical infrastructure that would immediately create millions of new good paying jobs desperately needed by the middle class.

Now is the time for Americans to wake up, stand up and vote down Republicans and Democrats. How wonderful it would be if the candidate that claims the presidency only receives, say, 20 percent of all eligible voters. This is the first necessary step for we the people to take back OUR country.

Even statusquo-propper, like a broken clock,

can be right twice per day....even if it is for the wrong reasons.

But once you get beyond your new-found hollow hatred for the Dems and the GOP, what you would have in mind would simply sink us right back into the same power problem.

You cannot and can ever have what you want without risking and eventually inviting the possibility of what you hate and fear. You cannot and can never have a far-reaching government that doesn't bring us to this point sooner or later.

If you don't want to be a spectator to the bumbling three ring circus of compounded mistakes, power, corruption and bad ideas, you have to be against the three ring circus. You are not against the three ring circus.

Nor do you realize that your romantic faith in "democracy"...unquestioned, unfettered and ever-valid democracy is why we have these problems. You don't realize that unfettered democracy would surly have eliminated by now your right to write what you just wrote.

You find some unsubstantiated wisdom in having the power to vote on anything and everything...while you know full well how much we thankfully do not vote on. And I stress "thankfully".

They say never invite a vampire into your home or it renders powerless. Well, you got the welcome mat at your front door with neon lights.

And what happens after people "wake up"...hypothetically...and vote down the D's and the R's?? Then you become seduced once again by the same misguided, power-grabbing nonsense that fed the power to politicians to make the D's and the R's what are today.

How do you plan to make a powerful "democratic" government unpliable and unbending to the caprices and desires that you don't want while still being the democracy you dream of? How do you plan to make sure people "stay awake" and think the "right way" (an arrogant way of saying YOUR way)??

You're one big contradiction after another.

You know the average person voted these people in, yet you have faith that they can or would vote these people out and replace them with people who would never do what the current crop did even though that would have the same authority to allocate and control and promise and deceive as much as the current crop does.

And since you don't see the contradictions in your words and thoughts, you don't understand how utterly meaningless it is to say:

This is the first necessary step for we the people to take back OUR country.

What does this feel-good phrase mean? Who are we taking back it from? Why are those people we're supposedly taking it back from there? Do they really have OUR country or just the democratically granted right to manipulate it for the benefit of special interests and themselves? What does OUR country mean as opposed to YOUR country or MY country or SOMEONE'S ELSE'S country...when we're talking about the SAME country in each case?

Funny how you mention Kings vis a vis the purpose of the revolution. Even funnier is the romantic illusion that unfettered democracy is a weapon against monarchy and plutocracy. Unfettered democracy equals unfettered government and unfettered government equals pending disaster when the time is ripe. History proves this as it's biggest lesson in political economy...yet we willfully think we can do every "next time" and fail miserably.

But you will overlook all this. You will not see the blood on the hands of romantic democracy-cures-all thinking. You will continue to believe that unspeakable, virtually limitless power voted into the hands of few by the many is the answer. And you will never see it as the problem because you don't understand the problem.

Don't tell other people to wake-up.

Back in the thirties we were told we must collectivize the nation because the people were so poor. Now we are told we must collectivize the nation because the people are so rich.” ~ William F. Buckley, Jr.
